This Summer

Hey blog readers! My job is to tell you tips on how to save the planet, update you on natural disasters, and say funny jokes. So today's topic is, "This Summer". Here are some tips on what you can do this summer to save the planet, while having fun.
  1.  Go on a picnic, and hike while your at it. And instead of using plastic bags and stuff for the food, use reusable containers.
  2. Play outside everyday, instead of being lazy and watching T.V. until your brain rots.
  3. Ride a bike to the mailbox. Instead of taking the car.
  4. Instead of going to those expensive water parks, go to your local pool, or if a friend has a pool, go to their house.
  5. Instead of having a water-balloon fight, use water guns. They're reusable, don't pollute the planet, and will get the other person way more wet.
  6. Have a neighborhood barbie-Q. And use chicken instead of beef. ( ever heard of a turkey burger, I have, they have better taste than regular burgers. But that's just my opinion)
Well that's all. If you have any ideas for my blog, post them in the comments section. ; )

EASTER TIPS

Here are some tips for Easter tomarrow.
  • instead of using plastic eggs for the egg hunt, use real hard boiled eggs.
  • instead of putting candy inside the eggs, have whoever collects the most eggs get a prize.
  • if you have plastic eggs left over from last Easter, its ok to use them but keep reusing them each and every Easter until they can't be reused anymore.
  • don't hire an Easter bunny for your kids, because the " Easter bunnies" ride uses up fossil fuels, and it goes into the air as greenhouse gases. instead of renting one, buy or make a home-made bunny suit yo wear.
Well thats it. HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

PASIFIC FISH HAVE PLASTIC IN STOMACHS

Yesterday in the news paper I noticed this article.
long beach California. researchers said about a third of the fish collected in the northern Pacific Ocean had plastic in their stomachs.
the Long-Beach-based Algalita  Marine Research Foundation and the Costa Mesa-based Southern California Coastal Water Research Project said the study shows the troubling effect floating litter has on marine life.
the study said about 35% of the fish collected during the 2008 research expedition had ingested plastic. Researchers trawled 1,000 miles off the coast for fish living among floating debris in an area known as the Eastern Garbage Patch.
the Los Angeles Times said the fish each ingested an average 2 pieces of plastic, but plankton-eating lantern-fish each had up to 83 plastic fragments.
Researchers are sharing their findings at Friday's Plastics Are Forever International Youth Summit in Long Beach.
See. this is why we shouldn't through garbage into the ocean, soon this will effect animals who eat sea-animals(like us for instance) and then things that eat them and it will go on until everything is effected. One way we can prevent this is recycling.

WATER

Don't waste your drinking water by pouring it down the drain. Instead, pour it on a nearby thirsty plant or top off your fish bowl.
Before leaving the bathroom or kitchen, double- check to make sure your tap isn't dripping. Millions of gallons of wasted water go down the drain every day because of leaky fausets.
Install a low-flow shower head in all your bathrooms. Using less water in the shower means there is less energy required to heat the water.
Do these things, and more, and we all can come closer to saving mother Earth. And if you have ideas on how we can save our planet, post it in the comments. Or, if you know my mom's email address, email my mom. And, if I like your idea, you might see it here, on YOU CAN!

MY THOUGHTS ABOUT THE OIL SPILL

You have all read about the things I have written about the BP oil spill, but you haven't yet heard my opinions about it. I think that we haven't been taking care of our planet, the oil spill isn't the only example. There are many others too. There have been signs that we have ignored and failed to see. Global warming is one sign we have paid attention to. But there are other signs a few, not all, have failed to see. One is how trash that we leave on beaches and in lakes and rivers,so I suggest that we all pick up 5 pieces of trash of the ground and streets every week. Then by the end of the year, just Somerset could clean up more than half of the earth's litter. And if you ever go snorkling, or go rafting in a river, look closely for trash in the water. Then, if you find some trash in the water, please pick it up.

MAYAN VILLAGE IMPACTED BY CLIMATE CHANGE!

Here is another input from the newspaper; TABI, Mexico- The first time Araceli Bastida Be heard the phrase "climate change" was on the TV two years ago. Then she began to understand why strange thing have been happening in her village.
Tabi was in its second year of drought , and the corn that sustains the village was left stunted on the stalks. farmers couldn't bear the midday heat anymore, and were in their fields at dawn in order to finish before noon.
After a half-mile walk from school, Bastida Be's son would return with headaches. Summer nights were too hot to sleep. And winters were so cold the villagers had to buy blankets.
A year earlier, Hurricane Dean reached deep into Mexico's rain forests, destroying Tabi's beehives and blowing down several thatched-roof homes. "we don't know what's going on. All we know is that something has changed,' said Bastida Be, 31, who tends her own corn crop.
In Cancun, a resort 155 miles to the north, world governments are grappling with Tabi's problem. A 193- nation climate conference is debating measures to restrain emissions of carbon and other gases that are causing the Earth's temperatures to rise. They also are discussing how to help people like Tabi's 400 residents adjust their lives to new conditions.
But the subsistence farmers of Tabi can't wait. Their traditional practices, rooted in 2,500 years of Mayan culture, can no longer produce enough to feed them.
The hot weather has reduced yield by 50% to 60% during the past 15 years, according to Mexico's department of rural development, culminating in 2009 with the worst drought in 60 years.
Scientists said average global temperatures have been rising markedly, with each of the past three decades hotter than the previous.  The villagers say they began to notice about 10 years ago that days were warmer and trees were not flowering as they used to.

More Random facts!

Here are some more random facts; A plastic bottle takes 700 years before it will begin to decompose. We could save 250 million trees each year if every American recycled his or her newspapers and magazines. Americans consume more that 80 billion cans of soda every year, about 50% of cans are recycled. Aluminum can be recycled over and over again. The U.S. is the number one trash-producing country in the world, this means that 5 generate 40% of the world's waste. Motor oil never wears out, it can be recycled and used over and over.

Random Tips

Here is a few tips; Turn of the water when brushing your teeth. While waiting for the water to heat up when you wash your hands or face, save the cold water to water your plants or wash the floor. Take charge of reducing your shower time and the times of your whole family by two minutes per shower. use a stainless steel water bottle and avoid buying disposable plastic bottles.

BRING THE RAFT, BUT TAKE THE TRASH!

Hey! I know that I haven't posted in a while, but that's going to change! now here is a news paper clipping from a couple of months ago.  RENO COUPLE CLEANS UP RIVER AREA WHEN NO ONE ELSE WILL: Looking down at the Truckee River from his home on Idlewild Drive in Reno, Dennis Martin can make out the discarded beer cans shining when the sun heats them.
In recent weeks, martin and his wife, Coleen, have noticed more cans and trash floating along the river. With warm temperatures, the number of people floating down the river on inflatable rafts or inner tubes has grown, meaning more litter that the Martins say they clean up because city officials have not acted on their requests.
"This stuff doesn't belong in the water," Dennis Martin said Aug.1, pointing to a pump station operated by the Truckee Meadows Water Authority across the way from his house."This is the city's water supply."
The Martins walked in the waist-deep water on Aug.1, stopping occasionally to pick out the empty beer cans they noticed floating down the river or stuck among the rocks. Colleen Martin held a trash bag to collect the cans.
Young adults floated by on the rafts or inner tubes. None were seen throwing empty beer cans in the water, although one young woman was seen getting out of the water to trow trash in a garbage can.
Dennis martin has taken photos that show makeshift boat parties with young adults with empty beer cans strewn about. in one photo, a young man is seen urinating in the water, even with a portable toilet a few feet away.
Well that's it. Come back on Sunday to read a new post! ; )
